Does the Kingdom of God being at hand mean it will come or that it has come?

In the verse, the verb is ἤγγικεν and it means "to draw near." But it's in the perfect tense, which is a completed action. So... the kingdom of God has finished drawing near. It's here.

Would you surrender your own beliefs in the cause of doctrinal unity?

Who isn't might be a shorter list. Not these guys...

Would you surrender your own beliefs in the cause of doctrinal unity?

We all have our own thoughts inside our head. The question is just whether I'm willing to sit there and bite my tongue when a church teaches something I think is wrong. The answer to that question isn't always the same. I don't think there's a single church that's right on every doctrinal...

Jews Are Just 1/3 of Israelites?

When I talked about misunderstanding the Bible? Exhibit A.

Jews Are Just 1/3 of Israelites?

That's about what I expected from you. They're descended from different tribes. Historically, the two groups had separate kings, separate governments. Their state-sponsored religions weren't the same. But more importantly, God deals with them separately in the Old Testament. So if you...

Sabbath or Sunday? What did Jesus teach & show in scripture?

I mean Domingo, the Lord's Day. I guess it technically isn't a day of rest, like the day before it. But it is a day where the church comes together, and while this was mostly to transact business in the early days of the church, that really doesn't happen so much anymore, and we're basically...

Jews Are Just 1/3 of Israelites?

Yes, thank you, exactly. I kind of tapped out of this thread after being called an anti-Semite. Like, I'm not technically Jewish (my mommy was German) but I did grow up in a mixed-Jewish household, I work in an office that is populated mostly by Jewish people, and most people who meet me...

Sabbath or Sunday? What did Jesus teach & show in scripture?

You're telling him that this is a re-post that doesn't actually address him... you might as well tell him not to read it.

Sabbath or Sunday? What did Jesus teach & show in scripture?

I see the part about ceasing labors. I don't see anything about attaining righteousness? The context seems to stretch back into chapter 3, where it's talking about the Israelites in the Wilderness not entering the land because of unbelief, and there's a quotation from Psalms 95. Am I missing...

Christ's sinless Head with a sinful body?

2Co 7:10 Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Christ's sinless Head with a sinful body?

It's an interesting verse with regards to the afterlife. I believe that "mist of darkness" or "outer darkness" is a part of the Greeks' conception of Hades - that portion of the underworld where the forgotten eventually wander off into non-existence. There are also references to Tartarus, and...

Christ's sinless Head with a sinful body?

2 Peter chapter 2 addresses the "spots" and "blemishes" within the congregation: Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have...

Who ARE "the prophets" in Ephesians 2:20?

Wait... are those different things? Isn't the Spirit of God the same as the Spirit of Christ? I'm thinking of Ephesians 4: There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and...

    Misunderstood Concepts--- Atonement

Sorry I took you so far off-topic. So, uh... There seems to be some link between atonement and anointing. Atonement means covering, and anointing means smearing, and those seem pretty similar to me. Exodus 29: And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement: and...

    Apokatastasis in the early church

I love the fact that you went and looked it up. That's awesome. I agree that Aristotle doesn't write anything about resurrection... the Greeks believed in transmigration, which is similar but different from resurrection, in important ways. I think you might be talking to St Steven here rather...

    Misunderstood Concepts--- Atonement

Oh! I remember this story! It's interesting and would make for a great movie, but... I think it's fiction. The story of Noah comes from a different place and people that the story of Adam. Actually... all of the stories in Genesis can be loosely categorized by their origin. Some come from...

    Misunderstood Concepts--- Atonement

I was referring to this one (wikipedia), which I think may be the same one you're talking about here? Those pictures of old pages are kinda rough. Here's a text version of the book: The Book of Jasher This is the one that the LDS church believes. It clearly didn't originate with them, but...

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

This is a modern myth. The "temple mount" is actually a Roman construction of the 2nd century AD. The Dome of the Rock was the site of the Roman Fortress in the city of Aelia Capitolina (the Romans re-named Jerusalem). The Al-Aqsa mosque on the south end of the artificial mountain is closer...

    Misunderstood Concepts--- Atonement

Too many coincidences for my tastes, but you do. :) I have looked into it. The Book of Jasher that we have today was written in the 15th century in Spain. It's not the same as the one referenced in the Bible. There's also a Mormon book of the same name, I think.

    Apokatastasis in the early church

@St. SteVen Did you know... if you click on someone's name, there's a link there to ignore their future posts?
