You can try and add anything you want, and call it a "requirement", but none of that Legalism changes what the Bible says.

It is a relatively common defense mechanism exhibited in many people.

Nowhere in the Bible is it a "requirement", unless you prefer to make yourself "live under Law" for Salvation.
