    Why do Catholics…

@Ronald Nolette There was some good about Augustine's writings; but what you say about allegory supposedly taking precedence over the meaning of words in their context: this is not helpful to do this; you are absolutely right.

    Why do Catholics…

@Ronald Nolette The historical-grammatical method of interpreting the Scriptures came out of the Renaissance and Reformation. It was the very opposite of the idea of the existing system reading meaning into the Scriptures.

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Eternally Grateful I agree, yes. I may have mentioned that my wife and I talked to a young lady with John 3.16 machined in ink into her wrist; it led to our conversation; other conversations have doubtless arisen also; going to the tattoo parlor is exactly the sort of thing that young ladies...

Unto Good Works is With Works Now, Not Later

@Eternally Grateful Amen, there! Ephesians 2.8-10.

What if you lose your faith?

@Ferris Bueller The verse on @Eternally Grateful 's avatar is very relevant: the work of grace in the believer's heart is permanent: "He that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ".

What if you lose your faith?

If so, they clearly never truly believed in the first place.

    Once Saved, Always Saved?

@Eternally Grateful Here is it: "All of grace, yes, grace surpassing, Such a portion to bestow, But the love, all knowledge passing, Grace has taught us now to know. Love that bore the stripes and sorrow, Love that suffered on the Tree, Love that shares the bright tomorrow, With the loved...

@Eternally Grateful Your contributions are valued. I do love a hymn which speaks of the sovereign grace of God; I'll try to dig it up.

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Taken Good to keep praying for her, right? that she may learn from God's Word and her experiences. What can usefully be remembered also is that ppl with tattoos not unusually will go back to the artist after some years anyway if there is a bit of ink fading and have an existing tattoo...

    Are you prepared?

@Taken Good by God's grace, to be ready. 1 Corinthians 7.29: "Brethren, the time is short".

The Insanity of the "right" to have guns!

@Pearl This is the sort of subject where there can be a lot of Christian liberty, and this is a point that runs through Romans 14. Like for example, a Christian who has always lived in the Australian Outback might have come round to a different viewpoint about guns compared with someone in Europe.

    Age for first ear piercings?

@Pearl Yes. It doesn't all have to be so serious and heavy. And these days it can be benign for both granddaughters and grandsons, if this is a custom that comes naturally to them. The ones in the photo you uploaded are IMHO more definitely ladies' ones.

The Deity of Jesus under attack on this forum.

@Pearl Wonderful how Old and New Testaments tie in together with such references about the Lord Jesus.
