Considering that countless millions and millions of both Jews and Christians down through history (even in modern times) couldn't read, they really had no choice but to sit and listen to what their Rabbi (preacher/priest) told them the Scriptures meant.

It comes from the same place most of the good old Christian hymns you love came from. None of your favorite hymns are from the original "songs" Peter and Paul sang. They were all "Crazy, New Fangled Stuff" to the older Christians when the younger songwriters wrote them.

I believe Ben Carson, like Jeff Sessions, seems to be a good man. But, both men are pretty ineffective because they both seem to lack the courage to really stand behind their supposed convictions.
