Reconciling Romans 4:2 with James 2:24

No confusion on my part. "Faith only" or "faith alone" in James 2:24 is talking about an empty profession of faith/dead faith that remains alone - "barren of works" (James 2:14) so your argument is moot about being justified/accounted as righteous/saved by works and Romans 4:2-6 blows your...

Reconciling Romans 4:2 with James 2:24

LOL! Typeo. Fixed it. ;) So the believer passively sits back while God does good works through the believer? That's how you get around boasting? Roman Catholics, Campbellites and other works-salvationists use that same argument, but that's not how it works. Believers are not passive in...

Reconciling Romans 4:2 with James 2:24

I disagree with Catholics and the Church of Christ strongly as well who both interpret James 2:24 this way - "You see then that a man is justified/saved by works, and not by faith only." You may not teach that we are "initially" saved by works - "type 1 works salvation" but you still teach that...

Reconciling Romans 4:2 with James 2:24

We need to remember that James is discussing the evidence of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18) and not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God. (Romans 4:2-3) Works bear out the justification that already came...

Does anyone know what OSAS stands for?

    Second Death

Yes, in Jude, these certain ungodly men who have crept in unnoticed (vs. 4) are said to be devoid of the Spirit. (vs. 19) In regards to twice dead, a tree being dead to the core and is incapable of producing good fruit then being "uprooted" is twice dead. The NASB says "doubly dead." (vs. 12)...

How is Love, greater than Faith, and Hope?

Love is the greater quality of the three because God is love and it outlasts them all. Long after the "evidence of things not seen" are now seen (Hebrews 11:1) once we are in the presence of the Lord and we are no longer looking for the "blessed hope" - (expectation of what is sure) and glorious...

    Spotting Heretics

Of course I know that Judas was not born again. Hence, the "unbelieving, unclean devil who betrayed Jesus." (John 6:64-71; 13:10-11) From beginning to end Jesus saves me. I trust 100% in Jesus Christ for salvation. He is the ALL-sufficient means of my salvation.

    Spotting Heretics

I don't believe that genuine, born again Christians can lose their salvation. Faith in of itself is only as good as the OBJECT that we place it in and of course, faith must be placed exclusively in Jesus Christ for salvation. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not by works.

    Spotting Heretics

The Greek word for “abide” is "meno" which means to remain, tarry, not to depart, continue to be present, which is the mark of a genuine believer. This is not something that only elite saints do. 1 John 4:13 - By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His...

    Spotting Heretics

That's it. In regards to Colossians 1:23 - ..if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. The word "if" here is an...

    The Sabbath Day

These are all the same verses that I hear Roman Catholics cite with your same misinterpretations that culminate in "type 2 works salvation." :(

    The Sabbath Day

I already thoroughly explained 1 John 1:7 to you in CONTEXT in post #269. Did you even bother to read my post? Your misinterpretation of 1 John 1:7 once again results in "type 2 works salvation."

    The Sabbath Day

So you don't believe that we are justified by faith? Romans 5:1 is incomplete? Whose righteousness? Philippians 3:9 - and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith. We have...

    The Sabbath Day

Like it or not 1 John 1:8 is in the present tense, which rules out sinless perfection, but also does not mean that Christians are slaves of sin either. Christians are slaves of righteousness and not sin. (Romans 6:18) Being saved from the power of sin in the process of ongoing sanctification is...

    The Sabbath Day

This is the same argument I hear from Roman Catholics who basically end up teaching that faith "is" multiple acts of obedience which is basically saying that faith "is" works and to be saved by faith is to be saved by faith AND WORKS. Sound familiar? Prior to my conversion several years ago...

    The Sabbath Day

Regardless of what other works and traditions that Catholics 'include' in their view of sanctification and although you and Catholics have a difference in style, the end result is still the same in substance - "type 2 works salvation."

    The Sabbath Day

Sorry, I don't believe you and I already thoroughly explained James 2:24 in context to you in post #301 and I also properly harmonized scripture with scripture before reaching my conclusion on doctrine. You misinterpret James 2:24 the same way Roman Catholics and other works-salvationists...
