    I have seen a verse where He say esteem others better than self, or one where He says set your thoughts on others things, which to me would imply needs.

    When we get to the place where we can love others more than self then we have been made perfect in love. This in my opinion is His task. The reason I say this is because it is at the core of who He is. He made a grand demonstration of this 2k years ago.
