@FluffyYellowDuck It's such a widespread thing; I get what you say about avoiding doing it for the wrong reasons; various demographics of ppl do it especially; and it's indeed used as a conversational tool, esp. by nurses (Christian or not); I saw a quote about this (I'll dig it up....)

@FluffyYellowDuck There so much in Ecclesiastes and Proverbs, and I like to read them with the NT in mind, such as about the Lord Jesus 'Who of God is made unto us wisdom' (1 Corinthians 1.30), etc.

@Pathfinder7 I think there does need to be an emphasis on prayer and the Scriptures in a God-given revival, rather than a lot of emotion (maybe there's that, too; but not essential).

I take both those quotes from Acts (which you referred to and the Philippians 2 verse) as containing truth from God; if I can't see it rationally, yet at an eternal level I accept that both are true, whether or not my finite mind can see it.

I wouldn't see Matthew 24 as referring to the rapture of the church; with the strong Jewish background, more likely tribulation saints.
