@Paul Christensen So much is indeed wrapped up in the words of the Lord Jesus "It is finished" (John 19.3). At the same time, the believing pilgrim must take up his or her cross daily (Luke 9.23), and follow the Master.

@amadeus Great verses there; thank-you. We can bear in mind also that the bondservant's ear piercing is part of the language of Scripture, even of Psalm 40, speaking Messianically; and Ezekiel 16 includes earrings as seemingly part of the symbolic description of the truth of imputed...

@Jay Ross Important comment about allergies and infections; thank-you. One can bear in mind also that in North America a huge proportion of preachers' wives, not to mention members of the their congregations, would not unusually wear earrings.
