Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

This expression 'rightly dividing the word of truth' I am certain any believer would approve of even those who have a diametrically opposed view to ones own. I think however that it is overstepping its intent to make it the catch cry of a particular theological view.

Yes. Symbols paint pictures that words often find difficulty to express and for our joy and dare I say sanity will, as you say, endure.

I hear what you are saying Stranger yet I do not find your explanation persuasive. The reason you give for Jesus not quoting the full text in Luke 4:16-18 are his reasons and not the ones you superimpose upon him. Isa. 61 covers both aspects of God's duel salvation story (justice and mercy)...

'What comes out of the mouth is the overflowing of the heart' ... listening carefully will identify the spirit that speaks irrespective of the tag/identity people choose to put forward.

'by different ways' I mean the same story is described using varying imagery. Gods justice executed, God's mercy revealed. It is against people who in the context are represented by the sin bearer. He bears their sin single handedly.

    An interesting question.......

I used to think these scenes were a set up but then realised it was the free universe vindicating God. That changed my perspective altogether and my heart jumped and throbbed with the prospect.

By Whose stripes you were healed...

I I find it interesting to note that the Jews who believed in him (Jn 8:31) further down in vs 50 picked up stones to stone him. Yes, without an inner renewal all external piety is just show and smokescreens.

Yes, the context reveals it is vengeance against sin. Isa. 40 onwards portrays Gods view and redeeming activity in different ways. For the the Jews not to see this is one thing but for Christians to miss this is indicative of misappropriation and an ignorance of of how the scriptural puzzle...

    An interesting question.......

Ohhh yes, stepping back, looking forward. Too often my small subjective view blurs or stunts the bigger picture yet as I read in Revelation of millions upon millions of angels and the saved singing and extolling God's rightness I am lifted from the temporal to the eternal. I'm reminded of Paul's...

    The Return

Ahhhh, some things roll off the tongue, some burst from the heart and yet others the pen. Poetry gives me permission to break the rules of English. Not that the rules necessarily need breaking but the flexibility evokes a certain freedom. The scriptures too paints word pictures which we are...
