PS: @Ron Coates Yes, I can well understand a young man wanting just to make sure he has the holes done in his earlobes in case he ever wants to use them; it can be really manly thing to do. (Going for it is easy, too, isn't it?)

@Ron Coates It used to be decades back that girls pierced their ears and guys got tattoos; now guys also pierce their ears and girls get tattoos, including a lot of Christian men and women. Ear piercing is no big deal, either; there's even quite a bit in the Bible about it; the bondservant...

PS: The Old Testament is not - I believe - directly about the church, but there is so much there that does apply very vividly, and this quoted passage is one that does so very aptly.

@Ron Coates I guess for the many believers who get tattooed it's more about expressing the value and significance they already possess by faith, rather than searching for it (if this makes any sense?)

@michaelvpardo Interesting and thoughtful post; I can see what you are saying. Another example slightly different I guess would be if a Christian woman has a tattoo of the name of a former, non-Christian bf (e.g., 'BILL') and does not want to be 'condemned' to wearing it for the rest of her...

The New Testament is full of God in Three Persons, end of Matt. 28, John's Gospel, esp. chapters 13 thru 17, Romans 8, John's First Epistle, etc. It's truly full of the great doctrine of God in Three Persons.

@Ezra From back: yes it's covered by Romans 14, though ... LOL ... like you say it can fade; sometimes ppl go back to the parlor to have the ink touched up.

@Ezra Indeed, as Hebrews 10.22 says: 'Let us draw near with full assurance of faith'. :)

@Ezra John's First Epistle also is a very strongly assuring book.
