What do they say? I'm not part of a movement, so I'd like to hear what they have to say.

Didn't you say you thought 1 John 1:8 was a Christian, or was I mistaken? You are trying to jump through too many hoops, when the answer is not that complicated for 6 or 8 or 10. You just have to know the author and what he would have meant.

Is 1 John 1:6 about a Christian? Will that person be in heaven?

Actually, that has happened in John G. Lake's ministry in the early 20th century.

Yes, Christians are definitely held to a higher standard that the Old Testament law of Moses. But that is solely because they only had the carnal nature, where a born again Christian takes on the divine nature.

The key is, if God does it once, can't He do it again? Nothing has ceased.

The NIV is a thought for thought translation. PW and I were discussing word for word literal translations. NASB doesn't agree with my literal translation.

1 John 3:21-24 is assurance to those who keep His commandments, and the proof of that assurance is answered prayer. For the first 30 years of going to church before I was born again, not one of my prayers were answered. After I was born again and filled with His Spirit 100% of my prayers are...

I don't see it as what is for Israel, and what is for the Church. I see the Church as consisting first of Jews, then Gentiles being grafted into the SAME Church. So Mark 16 is for us also.

Yep, 1 John 5:16-17. I've memorized them both, but the other is on answered prayer which I also quote a lot. LOL

So how do you think it changes the meaning? Can you murder as long as you don't practice murder, or is it not in your nature to even murder once?

Sin in general? Yes. But specifically, only trespasses which are sins not unto death. These are the sins mentioned in the Lord's Prayer. But there ARE sins unto death that John is saying a Christian cannot commit even once. 1 John 5:14-15

So does the NASB. When in doubt go to a literal translation. They are hard to read but they are word for word. 1 John 3:9 Young's Literal Translation (YLT) 9 every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God...

He believes in the gifts from the Father and the Son, but not the Holy Spirit. Go figure! That means he doesn't know about Covenant Theology, that like the first covenant, not a jot or a tittle will cease until all is fulfilled. We are still inside the New Covenant, and nothing will cease until...

I feel God's "assurance." I just don't like the modern twist on OSAS that some teach or believe. As Jude says it turns the grace of God into lasciviousness.

1 John 1:6, 8 and 10 are not Christians. Like @marks said, they have never repented. And 1 John 1:9, I see, as what is necessary to become a Christian. Those who are His He gives His Spirit to to walk in and not commit willful sins of lawlessness, and as you grow in the Spirit you will...

I said it was written TO Christians, but not all verses are ABOUT a Christian. So is 1 John 1:6 a Christian?
