So sorry. Isaiah 48.10 says 'I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction'. The blessing for believers is to know we are chosen, rather than to avoid tribulations. The Lord Jesus said in John 16.33, 'In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world'.

There is so much in the Psalms; the highs, the lows, the extremes of emotion and experience, the Messianic content, the faith. They are inexhaustible. :)

Maybe this was post-war in your family's case, then. These days birth control methods are more effective and more widely used. (Or not used, as the case may be.)

I think the war years made a lot of difference in some ways; in wartime things sometimes happened in personal relations which wouldn't have happened previously in peacetime.
