    Yes, this is a searching aspect: the will of God ruling instead of the will of the flesh. Indeed, John 1.13 says that the new birth is not of the will of the flesh.

    Well, exactly. Rather like the idea of the Old Testament bondservant's ear piercing, right? something that identifies the person. (I never can understand ppl who claim that ear piercing - especially for men, in the light of the bondservant passages - is supposedly unScriptural.)
