I think that where a literal reading fits, it's likely to be preferable to an allegorical, or 'spiritualized' reading. Even though it's all of spiritual value, of course.

Ephesians 5 speaks of 'washing of water by the word'; this doesn't really refer to baptism; rather, it indicated the cleansing effect of the Word of God.

There's something rather striking about Maori-inspired tribal tattoos, isn't there? Kind of both very modern and very traditional at the same time, aren't they? I think the swirling, tribal lines and patterns fit the contours of the body well, don't they?
