I think the 70 would be called disciples rather than Apostles in the primary sense.

I do think that a military background can often be conducive to serious thinking about spiritual things and end times.

Well, a lot of female military experience there in your family... (No tattoos though? if not, it must have been quite a while ago, because if it were in recent times a proportion of military women in the family would likely have gotten inked because it's very much the military custom.)

I understand it: it is on account of the remission of sins by exercised faith that has already occurred that the symbol of baptism is received. 'For' in English can sometimes be misleading.

I do see it always as a symbol; the regeneration I would see from Scripture as being at a different time, liked with the work of the Spirit and the exercise of faith.

Oh I can see it can be frustrating if you have spent a lot of time preparing a Scriptural answer and then someone deletes it.

Moderation is difficult. But anyway it's good for Scriptural posts to be well thought out.

Excellent verse; I often think of this verse in Philippians 1. The work started at the new birth (John 3) is a permanent work, indeed, if it really happened.

By applying water, spiritual regeneration doesn't happen automatically. But clearly in Acts 2 those who gladly received the word were baptised.

This was John's baptism of repentance and they clearly didn't repent...

I think also that statements of faith are distinct from creeds; statements can be useful summaries of the content of Scripture from various perspectives. While creeds are often used to extract pledges from ppl to commit themselves only to read Scripture through the conclusions that creeds come to.

PS: @"ByGrace" Added to your really excellent points here, I think @justbyfaith makes a really good point, above, where he reckons that piercings are a fine, potential way to communicate with the young generation, don't you think? (particularly adapted to your suggestions, above).
