The Lord Jesus saves; it's not at all by our own efforts (Ephesians 2.9). He is able to save (Hebrews 7.25); He is able to keep (Jude 24).

I was referring generally to the fact that an understanding of the Gospel that is so far from New Testament needs to be informed by a reading and study of the New Testament. It was a general comment, really.

There is the story of C I Scofield listening to someone praying; and then he whispered: 'Could someone fetch that man a New Testament?'

I don't agree; in Acts 2.41, those who were already believers were baptised; they did not get baptised in order to become believers, in order to become cleansed.

The church is composed of those called out of both Judaism and Gentiles: this happened in Acts; and the Epistles were addressed to churches, which were from a mixed Jewish and Gentile background.

The Apostle's doctrine in the New Testament is the norm, learned and practised at a local congregational level, not religious hierarchies.

Good to remember that the Spirit comes spiritually. Romans 8 even says that 'if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of His': in other words, the Spirit indwells from the moment we are born again.

Thanks; my understanding from 1 Cor. 10.32 is that Jews and the church are distinct ('Jew...Gentile...church of God') and that this distinction is fundamental to a dispensational understanding of Scripture.
