    Flat Earth Theory

N Nonsense! The earth is so large that a camp site curves so little as to be counted as flat. That is why the horizon is miles away. A piece of ground can be flat on a spherical earth. Tyndale's is the only translation I know of that translates the Hebrew words in that verse as "flat earth."

    Flat Earth Theory

Which verse even mentions both "flat" and "earth?" I remember somebody once claiming that it was, and quoting Tyndale's translation (sometimes known as "Matthew's Bible) of 2 Samuel 11:11: "And Vrias sayd vnto Dauid: the arck and Israel & Iuda dwell in pauilions: & my Lord Ioab and the...

After your born again do you think you will never sin again?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to be puzzled by that post!

    James 2 19 devils believe & tremble, so ??

I don't not what legalists might try to prove with this verse. I think the point about the devils believing is that merely believing that there is one God does not save anybody. Ephesians 2 tells us that sinners are saved by grace through faith (or belief): NKJV Eph 2:8 For by grace you have...

    Birth of Jesus Christ

I do agree that that was when He was publicly declared to be God's Son. But God the Father didn't say at the baptism of Jesus, "This One has now become My Son." If all you are saying is that He was first publicly declared to be the Son of God at His baptism, I agree. Yes, He obeyed His...

    Birth of Jesus Christ

Yes, I agree with that - it was only your notion of Jesus becoming the Son of God that I didn't agree with.

Was Paul able to reach the uttermost in his day and age? (Co-pilot Bible Study Question)

I'd almost forgotten that post - I'd written it back in May! Thanks anyway.

Was Paul able to reach the uttermost in his day and age? (Co-pilot Bible Study Question)

Yes, praise God! I don't have the details on this, but I heard at our church prayer meeting recently that there are large numbers of people being converted to Jesus Christ in Iran.

    Flat Earth Theory

You are now making accusations. I am not mocking God. Far be such a thing from me! If that is the way this discussion is going, I will leave it there.

    Flat Earth Theory

How do you work that out? I am not using any verse in Scripture to justify my belief about the shape of the earth, because I do not know of any verse that actually teaches the earth's shape. People believe in a globe earth hundreds of years before NASA. Let's get things in perspective. When...

    Flat Earth Theory

I never claimed that God used the word for a ball or sphere. My point was that the verse in question does not teach the shape of the earth. The Hebrew word used can mean circle, circuit or compass. What words have I changed? I do believe Genesis. The firmament is not some solid dome over...

    Flat Earth Theory

There are plenty of verses that say that the earth shall not be moved, but none, as far as I aware, that say that the earth does not move. When I walk into town to go shopping, I am moving. If a strong man picked me up and carried me into town, I would be moved. The Psalmist said that he...

    Flat Earth Theory

Post 2357 asks where the circle is on a globe earth. I have already responded to that. First, the word translated "circle" in Isaiah 40:22 is also translated "circuit" and "compass" in other verses. It could there fore be referring to the orbit of the earth. Second, globes do have circles...
  14. David Lamb

    Flat Earth Theory

A globe has circles. The equator is a circle. The Hebrew word can mean "circuit", so it could refer to the orbit of the earth. Besides, it is a symbolic verse, because God is spirit and does not literally sit anywhere. The verse isn't teaching us the shape of the earth.

Thanks. Apologies for the typo - I meant "sole of my foot" not soul!

    Flat Earth Theory

Your final sentence is wrong, because I have never said or claimed that in Isaiah 40:22 circle means a sphere or a globe. My posts have been about the two little words "of the." I have been saying that "of the" does NOT mean "is". So "the circle of the earth" does not say that the earth is a...

How Confidant Are You Being Saved?

How do you get that from what Anchorite posted? He quoted 1 John 5, part of a letter addressed to Christians. Neither John nor Anchorite was promoting Universalism as correct doctrine.

    Flat Earth Theory

I do believe God's word, which certainly mentions the "circle of the earth". But you seem to want to make the verse mean something like: "It is He who sits above the earth, and the earth is a circle." But it doesn't say that. "The circle of the earth" no more means "The earth is a circle"...
  19. David Lamb

    Flat Earth Theory

No I am not inserting my own meaning. "Circle of the earth" means that the earth has a circle, not that it is a circle, just as in phrases like "driver of the bus," hands of the clock," and "pastor of a church" don't mean that the bus is a driver, that the clock is hands, or that the church is...

Reviving Biblical Christianity (The Way) Part 2

So on what basis are you able to make what seems like an arrogant pronouncement? I have looked at seven English translations, and they all have something similar to the KJV. As for that verse cancelling all others in the bible, it does not.
