    Predestinated to Salvation !

That doesn't match what Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and...

    Help with John 12:32

So do you believe that not all those for whom Christ died will actually be saved? Yet in a prophecy about Jesus Christ, we read in Isaiah: “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His...

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

Nobody is putting the words of Paul above the words of Jesus. Also, Peter saying that some things Paul wrote are hard to understand is in no way saying that they are less true, or less important, than parts of Scripture that are easier to understand. The epistles of Paul are part of God's...

Is Swearing a Violation of the Ten Commandments? - No. - Well, maybe... ???

I think what it boils down to is what is in our hearts. People here in the UK use innocent-sounding words or phrases to avoid using swear words (Goodness!, Blimey - contraction of "Blind me" and many others). But if in their hearts the thought is just the same as if they were using an actual...

Is Swearing a Violation of the Ten Commandments? - No. - Well, maybe... ???

Yes, I agree that what constitutes bad language will vary enormously depending on where and when we live. I don't imagine many Americans or British people go around calling others "Raca" for example.

What's so great about Jesus? (seriously) ???

Yes, He not only showed us the way to life, He is that Way: “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (Joh 14:6 NKJV) That is indeed greatness!

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

I don't always agree with what Behold writes, but I have to say I cannot think of anything he has posted that suggests that he worships Paul.

Is Swearing a Violation of the Ten Commandments? - No. - Well, maybe... ???

Although I agree that the commandment is not about using expletives, there are plenty of references in Scripture to making sure that our speech is pure. For example: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” (Col 4:6 NKJV)...

    Help with John 12:32

I am sorry you consider me to be ignorant of the bible. I readily admit that my knowledge of the Scriptures is far from perfect - I don't think anybody would claim that they knew and understood God's word perfectly. I am not ignorant of those verses you quote. I just understand them...

    Help with John 12:32

Nobody led me to believe the doctrines of Grace/Calvinism. I believed them before I even knew they had those names, because I read the doctrines in the bible. I would agree with that. Christ dying for His sheep is what Jesus Himself said. Some of His hearers not being His sheep was what...

    Help with John 12:32

When I first became a Christian, I had never heard of John Calvin or Calvinism. When I read the bible, I didn't see "Calvinism" because I had never heard of it. I did see that salvation is by God's grace, His undeserved favour, and not of our works. I saw too, that by nature, I was a sinner...

    God’s name….

I agree. The name of God the Father and the Name of Jesus in the bible don't refer merely to the labels by which the Father and the Son are known. We are not saved by the letters "J E S U S" - that is certainly not what the bible means when it says: “"This is the ‘stone which was rejected by...

    Help with John 12:32

If by Calvinists you mean those who, like me, believe in the Doctrines of Grace, I don't think it is right to link Calvinism to "the Mary Obsessed, The Book of Mormon obsessed, the JWs, the Mary Baker Eddy disciples... the Gnostics..... The Scientologists, the French Philosophers......The...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

You'd be right. What would be the point in following a dead Saviour?

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

Do you mean your question: "Are you saying you would not follow Christ if there was no afterlife?" If so, I thought I had answered that by saying that if there was no afterlife, then Jesus would not have risen - He'd still be dead. Why would I want to follow a dead "saviour"?

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

God graciously brought me to believe that Jesus is alive, and that He is the only Mediator between God and man. Insurance isn't a very good illustration. We take out insurance policies to provide money in case something happens (like a fire, a robbery or a flood). Hell is a definite for those...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

No I am not. If there was no afterlife, Christ would still be dead. Why would I follow a dead Master?

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

I would say that in the bible we do indeed read of benefits here and now for believing in Christ, but they are only true because He did rise from the dead, and there is an afterlife. For example, He promises His followers His presence, and we also know that He intercedes for His people...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

To me, it certainly seems to be what Paul is saying. Without any resurrection/afterlife, people who were Christians (he writes) would be the most pitiable people in the world!
