At the point of conversion yes. Thereafter one compromises with sin and falls from that state and loses his first love. We must be these things in reality not just legally.

Jesus is saying that spiritual rebirth is a mystery. If it was as you believe why did not just say follow me like He did previously? Obviously more is required (if He is speaking to a believer)

Yes if we still sin. Every sin puts us under the law. The verses that say we are free are for those who have been made holy, actually not legally.

Indeed it does happen to anyone and to all that seek righteousness. Our sins makes us blind.
