Does the "husband of one wife" requirement mean that polygamy was common in the early church?

I did not say that no one disliked polygamy. Shoot a lot the early church writers did not like sex or women.

Does the "husband of one wife" requirement mean that polygamy was common in the early church?

We do not know how common it was. But the scriptures did not speak against it and it was a custom of the Jews to the point that it was considered a blessing of God to have multiple wives and a lot of children. And God took credit for David's wives And Paul put a restriction of one wife for...

The history and changes that occurred between the Old and New Testaments

The Syrian Era (198-166 BC) When the Syrians defeated Egypt in the battle of Panion in 198 BC, Judea annexed to Syria. Under the rule of Antiochus the Great and his successor Seleucus Philopater, the Jews, though treated harshly, were nonetheless allowed to maintain local rule under their high...

The history and changes that occurred between the Old and New Testaments

Around four hundred years pasted between the Old and New Testaments. Four hundred years of history and four hundred years of Jewish history. We are finding out more and more of the general history but not much on the religious side. There were significant events and changes that impacted the...

Does the "husband of one wife" requirement mean that polygamy was common in the early church?

There is the theological side and the history side of the concept of polygamy. The scriptures never condemn polygamy and the Mosaic Law regulated it and Yahweh took credit for King David’s wives. In the Hebrew culture it was considered a blessing of God to have many wives and children. As I...

Does the "husband of one wife" requirement mean that polygamy was common in the early church?

And Martin Luther said he could not condemn polygamy because the scriptures do not. Still unless there is a good reason and the first wife agrees then one wife is better.

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

The Jews were not preaching about the devil and hell, Christ was preaching about the devil and hell. We know about Shiva but we do not believe in her.

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

Nope LOL Never said the Jews did not know about Satan just do not believe he is a devil. And the pagans do not think Pan is a devil.

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

Yes even if they did not believe in the devil knowledge of him was there. But this topic does not come up in the Old Testament. Even in pagan religions the notion of a devil and hell was alien.

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

Incorrect. Look it up. The figure of Satan, or “the satan” (Hebrew: הַשָּׂטָן), appears in the Hebrew Bible primarily as an accuser or adversary, rather than the fully developed devil figure seen in later Christian theology. The term “satan” is derived from a Hebrew verb meaning “to obstruct” or...

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

Old Testament names a lot of times have descriptive meanings. For example the name Miriam from the verb מרה (mara) means to be rebellious or disobedient:. Which was actually the name of Christ's mother and translators found that offensive so they changed it to Mary. Like wise Satan can mean...

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

Read post 7 I think you will get it. At one time Satan was an "important angel" Being the leader of angels that is why some consider him as an archangel. But then there was the fall....not defined in the Bible when that occurred. But in the New Testament Satan is definitely defined as a devil.

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

I did not say that Satan is not a real being. I am saying Satan is not defined as a devil in the Old Testament. So the Jews do not believe in a devil. The word Satan mostly appears in the Old Testament in the book of Job. Where he appears in the Court of God to report on righteousness. Now when...

Things that were changed in Christian Bible translations

The Garden east of Eden The phrase “Garden and Eden” does not actually appear in the original scriptures, or at least the oldest ones available. They replaced the phrase “the Paradise of Delights" with the phrase “Garden of Eden.” This is not new information, it has been known for a while. In...
