Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

Why would you question God's motives?? Why did God choose ANY of the losers and dummies in Scripture?? He did this because HE worked through them. It has nothing to do with THEIR abilities - and everything to do with HIM.

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

Uhhhhh, no - it's because Jesus CALLS him the "Rock". It has nothing to do with "wanting" anything.

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

And Peter was the ONLY one that Jesus prayed for at the Last Supper when He told Peter that HE must strengthen his brothers (Luke 22:31-32). Peter was the ONLY one that Jesus asked to feed His sheep and tend His flock (John 21:15:19). Peter is the ONLY one who is called "FIRST" (Protos) among...

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

The Bible refers to the “Law of Moses” (Mal. 4:4, Luke 24:44, Acts 13:39, 1 Cor. 9:9). Jesus even referred to the "Seat of Moses". Do you have a problem with that?? Wasn’t it GOD’s Law?? Wasn't is GOD's Seat??

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

So - if it is built on several flawed, sinful men, then it's okay - just not ONE?? Why is that??
  6. BreadOfLife

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

This is absolute nonsense. Abraham is ALSO called the "Rock" by Isaiah (Isaiah 51:1-2). Is this "blasphemous"?? Do you ever bother to actually READ Scripture before posting your anti-Catholic drivel??

Then you'll have to ask Jesus. It answers MY curiosity on the subject . . .

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

Eph. 2:20 tells us that the Church is built on the Apostles and Prophets. Rev. 21 describes the foundations of the New Jerusalem being the 12 Apostles. Why is that??

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

He said, "You are ROCK" (Kepha)." "Peter" is simply an English translation of the Greek Petros. Greek has several words for "Rock" (lithos, petros, petra), whereas Aramaic only has ONE. Paul chose to use a Greek transliteration (not translation) and called him "Cephas".

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

I could accept that as a lucid and well-thought-out argument - if you had done your homework. Apparently, you haven't - or you would have posted a solid refutation of their scholarly quotes. If you disagree with them - PROVE them wrong. That's the way a debate works . . .

WHERE ARE ALL THE PROTESTANT PEDOPHILES?

And YOUR problem is that you criticize His Church. BIG difference . . .

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

Protestant scholars on Peter, the ROCK (cont'd) . . . David Hill (Presbyterian) “It is on Peter himself, the confessor of his Messiahship, that Jesus will build the Church…Attempts to interpret the ‘rock’ as something other than Peter in person (e.g., his faith, the truth revealed to him) are...

Upon THIS Rock I will build my Church

Good grief - how many times must this passage be argued - and how many time do you guys need to be proven wrong? FIRST of all - Jesus and the Apostles spoke ARAMAIC to one another - not Greek - so your entire linguistic argument goes right out the window. What Jesus actually said to Simon was...

If We Protestants Truly Hated Catholics...

WHO said that he is "redefining" what the Church teaches??

    ANSWERING "IRREFUTABLE QUESTIONS" from bible.con

Not only was the Septuagint NOT a "corrupted" Old Testament translation - it is quoted, referenced and alluded to some 200 times in the New Testament. It was part of the OPEN Jewish canon when Jesus walked the earth. It was the same canon that HE learned from as a young man. Where do Books...

    Addiction

Aspen - I know we've had our differences but I want to commend you for the courage it took to post this. EVERY one of us has our weaknesses and/or addictions - and we'd be lying if we said we didn't. I will be praying for you - and I hope that you will pray for me. I am just as frail and flawed...

    ANSWERING "IRREFUTABLE QUESTIONS" from bible.con

Are you actually claiming that the Deuterocanonical Books had NOT been penned before Jesus spoke in Luke 24??
  18. BreadOfLife

    ANSWERING "IRREFUTABLE QUESTIONS" from bible.con

Jesus didn't "limit" anything in Luke 24. He was speaking in GENERAL terms - not absolutes. Besides - your math DOESN'T add up. Since when does 24 = 39?? You STILL have a discrepancy of 15 Books in your Protestant count. Books like Job are not considered the Law or the Psalms or the...

If We Protestants Truly Hated Catholics...

This is ludicrous - and historically-bankrupt. Irenaeus wrote Against Heresies in the SECOND century (AD 175-185). YOU claimed that there was no Pope at the Council of Nicaea in the FOURTH century (AD 325). Make up your mind because you are speaking complete historical gibberish.

If We Protestants Truly Hated Catholics...

Why do you keep posting NON-Catholic sources to define Catholic beliefs and practices?? You make your statement above in RED by posting a secular source. This makes as much sense as ME defining the Protestant doctrine of Sola Scriptura by posting Kim Kardashian's thoughts on the subject . . ...
