1 Corinthians 3:1
King James Version (KJV)

3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:1
GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

You Belong to Christ

3 Brothers and sisters, I couldn’t talk to you as spiritual people but as people still influenced by your corrupt nature. You were infants in your faith in Christ.

The carnal man without the Spirit is not able to receive the meat of the Word. We begin as a babe in our new birth in the Spirit from our mother heavenly Jerusalem above, but we must grow in the Word as the Spirit nourishes us first on the milk of the Word then as sons able to chew on and digest the meat of the Word to discern good from evil.
Heb 5:11-14
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
