Thank you for your response @lforrest , and I totally agree with your 'first sentence', above. But something has always made me curious with the James verse.

JAM 5:20 let him know that he who did turn back a sinner from the straying of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

Why do you think it says "a multitude of sins"? Why not, 'the sin' you are helping them with? Or, even more importantly why doesn't it say 'covers ALL your sins'?

That same question now arises with your quote of 1Pet 4:8.
1PE 4:8 Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Why "a multitude" and not 'ALL'? Just a question I have asked myself for many years. And pending your response. I'd like to share the 'answer' I believe the "anointing" (1Joh 2:27) revealed to me since this thread started.

I've heard that analogy before, and it comes from an old Cherokee legend, which is not bible.

Not familiar with this "bible compares the soul to a land in which a spring flows." Can you share that reference?

EDIT
P.S. can you explain your username...lforrest? When I first read it, I thought you misspelled 'forest' clfh . Then, looking closer, I thought it stood for 'I for rest'. But when I tried to add a @ to the front of @lforrest....it would not 'tag' your name. Then I figured out that the 'l' in your username wasn't a capital 'i', it was a lower case 'L'. If that truly is the case then what does your username mean?
Why does love cover a multitude of sins? If we look to the parable of the unforgiving servant, we see the opposite. Had that servant forgiven the other servant, it would have been the charitable thing to do and would have been approved of by the king.

So I think love covering a multitude of sins is a more general requirement to receive forgiveness from God who is faithful to forgive all our sins. Love is the basis of the first and second commandments. And these commandments are affirmed by Jesus. And I believe that is what he was warning about in luke 6:46: "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"

There is a secret place described in the Psalms. It is alluded to in a few places, most prominently when Jesus met the woman at the well. It is like a slice of heaven within our soul. Other biblical references involving streams of water and trees beside the water I believe refer to this place.
