I think acts of kindness are antithetical to the very cut throat and self-interested society we find ourselves in today. In other words, it's good to see. coffee:

This brings to mind a Q I have had.. on occasion I run into the homeless. I normally talk with them a bit and see what I can do to help them- the convo always turns to Christ and 9/10 x they say they are believers.. Anyway, usually there is a strong smell of alcohol or an obvious drug stupor... some seemed to be mentally ill.
MY Q is- I tend to hesitate when they ask for cash which they always do- simply because I don't want to be the one who buys their drugs or alcohol. When I've offered my home to them- or food- they don't want it...
I don't want to walk away without doing something, so I end up annoyingly giving cash and making them promise to use it for food.. for whatever that's worth.
I'm wondering if anyone else can tell me what they do. I really don't want to feed a habit. I've worried that I could be the reason they die if they OD'd. I've found that the homeless are very hard people to help.

I have given cash at times, but sometimes I will walk over to a restaurant like subway or something not full of trash food, and purchase a gift card. Last summer, I cane across a homeless man on a corner near some stores, restaurants, and shopping centers. He was a very sweet man. We talked for probably an hour. I gave him a Subway gift card enough for 2 or 3 meals. It would feed him and also get him inside, paying for food and sitting in a cool place on a very hot day. We were in the midst of weeks over 100° ....115°+ heat indexes. (I had a heat stroke last summer, it was horrific.)

So bottom line ...if they're near a restaurant, get them a gift card for food. Or give them a WM gift card, etc.

Even just taking some time out to chat a little with someone that is alone is kind. Or offering to bring them a couple of grocery items if they are senior citizens and don't have a car.

Even just giving a smile and a hello to someone is kind... especially if they seem sad.

Amen, @Debp.
I have an abundance of eggs (at times getting almost 50 eggs a day). I do sell some, but I give away more than I can sell. I know a couple of veterans who I can give lots of eggs to, enough to feed them and their dogs and cats. lol
My dogs get at least a dozen eggs a day between two of them ...and about 10 eggs a day to the 9 cats that have multiplied around me.
