--Coming Upon "Overshowering": (Definition) Acts of power of the Holy Spirit. The moving of the Holy Spirit upon (on) a vessel. Where gifts are given without repentance. Outward shows of praise & power.
Interpretation: The Coming Upon or Overshowering of the Holy Spirit is was displayed in the prophetic utterances of the Old Testament prophets. No one was indwelled by the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and thus He just moved upon or on individuals. This is also evident on Old Testament hymns of praise. This is the movement of the Holy Spirit by displays of power outwardly but no inward work. In the New Testament or "Grace Age" this can be described as the movement of the Holy Spirit upon unregenerate individuals in praise, working of miracles, gifts operating but no repentance or no inward working or change. (Judges 3:10; Judges 14:6)
--Indwelling: (Definition) When the Holy Spirit comes to live in the spirit of the believer. The point where the Holy Spirit is given at conversion/ moment of salvation.
Interpretation: Jesus breathed on the disciples in St. John 20:21-23 and they were indwelled by the Holy Spirit. When we repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit enters into our spirit. Thus we are sealed by the Holy Ghost until the day of redemption. This is where the Holy Spirit convicts us, grows us in sanctification and the fruit of the Holy Spirit began to develop. (Ephesians 4:30)
--Baptism with the Holy Ghost: (Definition) The act of Jesus in unison with the Holy Spirit when the whole believer (body, soul (mind;will, emotions;heart, etc.) are immersed/drowned in the power, influence and person of the Holy Spirit. It is the endowment of power. Evidences or displays are explosive such as that of estatic speech (praise, prophecy, tongues).
Interpretation: This is the fulfillment of the prophet Joel's prophecy of the Holy Spirit empowering the believers (Joel 2:28). The act of Jesus for He alone is the baptizer with the Holy Ghost. We are resurrected into power. We are immersed/drowned and flood/sunk with the Holy Ghost. A significant change happens and we are endowed with heavenly power to witness and operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We embrace the whole person and influence of the Holy Ghost. Estatic utterances will accompany the act (praise, tongues, prophecy). (Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44, Acts 19:6)
--Infilling: (Definition) The believer is literally filled with the Holy Ghost (His power, wisdom, gifts, personage, truth, etc.). The believer is influenced and guided by the Holy Spirit producing fruit and operating in the gifts. The believer's life in full of the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Interpretation: The Spirit-filled Life. Life of the believer after the baptism of the Holy Ghost. The believer is filled with the Holy Ghost' personage. Where the believer's life of holiness, love and sanctification is the solid and more prominent evidence of the Holy Spirit in them. (Ephesians 5:18)
