November 10, 2006Ireland OnlineAl Qaida’s leader in Iraq today vowed his fighters will never rest until they have blown up the White House and reached Jerusalem.In an audio tape made available on militant websites, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir claimed to be winning the war in Iraq and said the US President was “stupid”.He praised the Republican defeat in the US midterm elections as “reasonable”, and claimed the al Qaida army has 12,000 fighters in Iraq, ready to die for their cause.Also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, al-Muhajir became the leader of al Qaida in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed by the US military in June.The al-Qaida leader reached out to the Muslim world and said his group was winning faster than expected in Iraq.The US president’s policy had enabled the militant group to achieve their goal of fighting more Americans, said the al Qaida leader.“We haven’t had enough of your blood yet,” he told the US.He called on Mr Bush to remain “steadfast in the battlefield” so al Qaida would have more opportunities to fight his soldiers.“We call on the lame duck (Bush) not to hurry up in escaping the same way the defence minister did,” he said, referring to the removal of Donald Rumsfeld as US Defence Secretary following the Democrats’ victory in Midterm elections.“They are getting ready to leave, because they are no longer capable of staying,” the al Qaida leader said.“Remain steadfast in the battlefield you coward,” he called on the US President.“We will not rest from our Jihad until we are under the olive trees of Rumieh and we have blown up the filthiest house – which is called the White House,” al-Muhajir said.The US military today announced the deaths of three soldiers and one Marine in Iraq, bringing the number of US troops killed in the country this month to 24. At least 2,845 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003.Meanwhile, a suicide bomber in an explosives-rigged car killed six Iraqi soldiers he’d lured from behind a checkpoint this morning. Around the country, 55 Iraqis in all were killed today in violent incidents or found dead.In Rawah, the Iraqi army arrested al-Qaida commander, Abu Muhayyam al-Masri, a defence ministry official said.The overall leader of al-Qaida in Iraq is an Egyptian Abu Ayyub al-Masri, although it wasn’t clear if there was any connection between the men.Two deputy leaders of the Rawah cell, Abu Issam al-Libi, or “the Libyan,” and Abu Zaid al-Suri, “the Syrian,” were also arrested, along with nine other fighters, said the official,The official said al-Suri confessed to being responsible for organising at least one suicide bombing in Baghdad. A large quantity of weapons was also seized in the raid, he said.

November 10, 2006By Michael EvansUK TimesHundreds of young British Muslims are being radicalised, groomed and set on a path to mass murder, the head of MI5 said yesterday.In a stark public warning, Dame Eliza ManninghamBuller, the Director-General of MI5, revealed that the Security Service’s caseload had risen by 80 per cent since January and now involved about 30 “Priority 1” plots.It has identified 200 terrorist networks involving at least 1,600 people, many under the direct control of al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan.“More and more people are moving from passive sympathy towards active terrorism through being radicalised or indoctrinated by friends, families, in organised training events here and overseas,” she said. “Young teenagers are being groomed to be suicide bombers.”Dame Eliza said that she was alarmed by the “scale and speed” of the radicalisation, which security sources later said had intensified since the 7/7 bombings. “It is the youth who are being actively targeted, groomed, radicalised and set on a path that frighteningly quickly could end in their involvement in mass murder of their fellow citizens, or their early death in a suicide attack or on a foreign battlefield,” she said.“Killing oneself and others in response is an attractive option for some citizens of this country and others around the world. [The] threat is serious, is growing and will, I believe, be with us for a generation. It is a sustained campaign, not a series of isolated incidents. It aims to wear down our will to resist.”Dame Eliza admitted that, despite a major recruitment drive, just 6 per cent of MI5’s staff came from ethnic minorities. This compares with 8 per cent in the Metropolitan Police. Security sources insisted that change was happening and, of 400 people recruited this year, 14 per cent were from ethnic minority groups.Dame Eliza’s comments came in an address to a discreet audience from the Mile End Group run by Peter Hennessy, Professor of Contemporary British History at Queen Mary, University of London.She timed her stark assessment to coincide with the conviction of Dhiren Barot, the al-Qaeda planner who was jailed for 40 years this week for plotting car bomb and dirty bombs attacks in London.In her speech she said the methods used by terrorists had become more sophisticated.“Today we see the use of home-made improvised explosive devices,” she said.“Tomorrow’s threat may, and I suggest will, include the use of chemical, bacteriological agents, radioactive materials and even nuclear technology,” she said.Her assessment of 30 Prior- ity 1 plots is a significant increase on the 24 “major conspiracies” referred to by John Reid, the Home Secretary, in August.Both police and security sources have given warning that Britain has become the No 1 target for al-Qaeda.The significant Muslim population and the constant flow of British-born Pakistanis visiting their families in Pakistan every year have been cited as providing al-Qaeda with opportunities for converting young people to terrorism.“My officers and the police are working to contend with some 200 groupings or networks, totalling over 1,600 identified individuals (and there will be many we don’t know) who are actively engaged in plotting or facilitating terrorist acts here and overseas,” Dame Eliza said.Those terror networks “often have links back to al-Qaeda in Pakistan and, through those links, al-Qaeda gives guidance and training to its largely British foot soldiers here on an extensive and growing scale”.The head of MI5’s speech, which was approved by ministers, comes after recent warnings given by Peter Clarke, head of Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command, and by Mr Reid. They both said that the terrorist threat would be long and enduring.

Berniebefore we get into our regular tit for tat to go off subject a little I have a nagging question I would like your opinion on if you know.Why is it that the U.S military can get a 18 year old kid fresh out of high school send him to basic training for 6 weeks and he is essentially ready for battle and in Iraq they say it takes 6 to 9 months or more to train each Iraqi I don't get why I don't think they are stupid so why does it take so long to train an Iraqi soldier do you have any clue?

1) 70% of the jobs in the military are non combatant service jobs2) "Ready for battle" is a relative thing. Teaching a kid to take on a person with a tank or armored Hummer with a Ma duece is nit "Battle ready"3) We are not doing as well over ther as you would like to believe. The fact that the enemy has captured as many of our weapons is proof of that.4) We use planes, tanks, and other armor against individuals armed only with rifles and RPG's. When it does get down to AK vs M-16, the outcome is not always a lop sided as you would like to think.5) I wouldn't call a kid armed with a .22 cal. poodle shooter that is only good for killing unarmed civilians "Battle ready"6) If what you say is true, we wouldn't still be there with no end in sight.The enemy's tactic is to digest us over years. Finally....You canot take an 18 year old disciple or Sarah Brady and make him into a rifleman in 8 weeks. Any skil and confidence I have with a weapon is due to me practicing on my own time & expense. Otherwise, I would have been on patrol with nothing more than a 15 minute lecture and fired onoy 40 rouds without any reguard as to weather I could hit anything.
