Today is the anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. RIP to all of the lives lost on that tragic night. :(

I have been to the Titanic museum in Gatlinburg. Nice exhibition of various articles from the ship.

Did you know that the Titanic had a twin?
Named the "Olympic" it had a very short use life before it was retired. And where the formula for steel they used is great under high heat situations...(like an internal combustion motor) it becomes very brittle under cold conditions. (thorough testing was not completed)

Linoleum flooring was the most expensive floors of that time period and used extensively on the ship. The thing also went through several tons of coal for each trip across the pond. Heated staterooms were also a luxury reserved for the most expensive suites. Otherwise you just hoped to have a room over the boiler...which was a double edged sword in case the boiler room blew and the noise/vibration from the decks below you.
They also had "party rooms" where sleep was done barracks style. 6-8 people to a room...bathroom was down the hall. (go long before you need to)
