I met a guy in a Slavic Christian Conference near my town, and this guy has been given some gifts from God. He told me he asked for God's heart. God gave it to him, and my friend told me that it was a hard gift to ask for. You have to deal with the pain that God feels when you see a person that's unsaved. I don't think my friend asked for the gift of visions. But he told me God gave him 4 dreams. 2 of which he told me. One was of giving fruits. He told me we ought to be fruitful and please God. And the other one was symbolic. Every time a person prays about something, there are bowls that are being filled up. And an angel takes a coal (burden) and drops it in the pot. And the outcome depends on how full the pot is. If you pray about an illness, and your prayer bowl is half full, the illness will be half gone. My friend also mentioned that he had been healed from cancer twice. And mentioned something about little children who healed him, but that part was very vague.Anyway, to the point of the topic. Can you ask for gifts? I always thought God only gave gifts he thought were fitting, despite the request. Or is it, ask and it will be given, knock and the door shall be opened?

You can ask, but that doesn't mean you will get it. One thing I learned NOT to ask for is patience since it comes through tribulations.

I believe that if you ask you will be given, but not in your timeing . God knows when you can handle what your asking for.He say's in his word that He doesn't give us any thing too hard for us to bare. All of the gifts of the spirit are available to us all!
