[sup]1[/sup] Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, [sup]2[/sup] looking unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12)

I find much of our modern christianity is centered around the 'authoring', as though it were all encompassing, and forgets the perfecting which Christ seeks to bring.

We see here how this happens.

[sup]10[/sup] For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. [sup]11[/sup] Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

[sup]14[/sup] Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: [sup]15[/sup] looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God;

Paul, though he had seen the light, and preached to many, said 'I have not yet attained' and 'I press on'. He also said he 'strove to apprehend that for which Christ apprehended him'. In other words, Christ gets our attention to we would... do what gets his, be as he is! The free gift is grace entrance into the race... There is indeed no condemnation... For those who walk according to the Spirit! :)

This is what we are called for, to be perfected, walking in the Spirit, just as he walked!

[sup]22[/sup] But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, [sup]23[/sup] to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, [sup]24[/sup] to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

:)
