Be Careful HOW... You Hear

Do you realize Lord Jesus told us to be careful HOW... we hear?

Luke 8:17-18
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

How might Lord Jesus have meant that underlined part after He said that part in red?

It means to pay close attention to what the preacher is teaching you, and especially when quoting God's written Word. Make sure the preacher is not ADDING or TAKING AWAY from the actual written Bible Scripture. For if we don't do this, for those without ears to hear, even what they 'seem' to have, will be taken away.

Here's a Biblical example...

When Lord Jesus began His Ministry, He was tempted of the devil for 40 days. Here the devil tempts Lord Jesus to cast Himself down...

Luke 4:9-12
9 And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto Him, "If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down from hence:

10 For it is written, 'He shall give His angels charge over Thee, to keep Thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.'"

12 And Jesus answering said unto him, "It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

The devil ADDED that above phrase in red when quoting from Psalms 91. It changed the meaning of that Pslams 91:10-11 Scripture, like Lord Jesus could just put Himself in danger any time He wanted, and God's angels would prevent any harm coming to Jesus.

Earlier English Bible translations that used the Greek Textus Receptus (Received Text) for its translation has that "at any time" phrase in the Greek.

But later, modern English Bibles omit that phrase, "at any time."

That is Biblical proof that Satan and his workers have been busy trying to corrupt The written Word of God by adding to or taking away from it.

I was thinking Luke 8:17-18 refered to the breath of life. If we have Christ we receive eternal life. But if we do not have Christ, even the life we have now will be taken away.

So are you saying that the corrupt Alexandrian codices that are known for taking away truths from the Bible, are the correct word of God, and the KJV is not?

Davy, you're not off to a very good start--but you have given a couple of examples of what NOT to do.

First, we should NOT suggest speculating what Jesus meant about something. Heaven forbid we adopt a practice of considering our own understanding as an approach to interpretation of scripture!

One would have to assume then that your understanding of Luke 8:17-18, is just that--just your own understanding, and otherwise not to be taken as how-to advice of any reliable method.

But this is a big and important subject to be taken seriously. Which no one need speculate about, or throw in their own opinion to muddy the water. To the contrary, God has established His own method to follow: He has reached down into the chaos and given His truth to a few--down throughout all of history--to give witness...not to those even most qualified, but to anything and anyone of His choosing from a donkey to a king and His own Son...and He hasn't stopped, because He never changes.

So, stop speculating, read or read again of God's long established method for our coming to know the truth, and listen and look for Him to do what He has always done.
