My God will never leave me or forsake me. He's given me more than enough. His provision is steadfast and faithful. I don't have to grasp for things because He knows what I need before I need it.

When I first got married, I had been taught to always want more and to worry about myself first. These are not good values for marriage. Marriage would have me surrender my ways to unite with my husband's vision from God. Marriage calls for a one flesh union, not a two person partnership.

I wanted to be submissive but only if I felt comfortable. Submission used to only be on my own terms.

I was half in half out, always seeing greener grass elsewhere.

God finally humbled me and I realized I was not spiritually superior to my husband. He had every right to lead and for me to follow. That's what I said I wanted in the beginning.

Becoming content for me was surrendering what I thought I deserved to embrace the call on my life to be a help mate to my own husband. The pain of that lesson is a reminder that God's ways are much higher than ours and we can trust Him.

Everywhere I see self-love being touted as a virtue. But loving God and others is what the man or woman of God focuses on.

You reap what you sew. If you give yourself to the service of God, your family, and your community ,you will reap joy and contentment.

But this path is hard. It's hard not to feel deprived at times. But keep going, looking to your Heavenly Father for what you need and want. He will give you these things as you focus outward.

For a long time, I saw treats of clothing and food as love. Its how I was raised. But it taught me discontentment as a lifestyle.

Instead of grasping for treat after treat, what if I looked to God to be my portion? What does that look like?

For me it's trusting that while Im in His hands, I don’t have to worry about burning out or "filling my cup first". I trust that He'll provide what I need when I need it.

I have to remember that God is enough in any situation I face. He is my strength and my portion forever.

This can be really difficult to stand by because of all the shiny new things that go before our eyes but this is important.
