I've noticed that there seems to be a decline of coming together in unity and under God within Christian household. In fact, the idea never came to me until I was reading a book (probably from 1800s) that touched on family worship as if it were a normal thing that everyone was doing, and I sensed a falling away from old traditions that might have been worth keeping; worshipping together, praying together, reading the Bible together, even just sitting together at the table and having a quiet dinner without any screens.

It seems more like today that families are just overly busy and divided- and then there's the risk of the older kids not having that quality time with a healthy family and going and finding that attention elsewhere. (Which is what I did.)

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Tonight, I was praying for God to lead me into what we wanted to do and my original plan was to sit down with a pen and sit down and write whatever I felt like he was leading me. No. I got the opposite impression instantly.

Now, with my beliefs, the man would be the one to traditionally lead in agreement and obedience with God's natural order, but that's not a blessing I have right now. So I kind of quit doing family worship for a while. Feeling of incompleteness or something

But I felt that was where God was leading me anyway, so after praying, I immediately went and grabbed our hymnal and the Bible. We sang a few hymns, my boy led in prayer, I read from Proverbs then from Joshua, had a discussion about what we learned, and then he closed in prayer for us. I have to admit that it does bring a sense of peace back into the home.

What about your household?
Do you have something like family worship in your home?
Do you have any traditions that help bring your family closer to God?
Do you want to?
Any thoughts?

Great subject. Don't know many moms with young kids on here. I have a 7 month old and 3 year old. I am off and on point sharing Bible stories with them. Lately, Ive played a lot of worship music, and music is really good for children of all ages. Lorena loves Christian kid songs. My daughter loves church now and wants to go even when it is closed. So she is getting old enough now I can really dig in and help her learn scripture now. If not, soon.

Aww. Mine are 7, almost 12, 16. :D The 16 year old and I don't have contact right now, because it's just too stressful for me to get cursed out and harassed constantly and then be capable of managing my own life in a positive way. They made up a lot of stuff to get her on their side, etc. Basically they are a scary bunch, but my 7 and 12 year old live with me.

At that age it's kind of hard just enough to get them to sit down long enough. LOL I think you're doing right by just leading by example right now and Christian kids songs are the right way to go.

As a preschool assistant, I have been learning a 5 minute Bible lesson and a 5 minute craft at one time is about as much attention they have. But then with baby, 5 minutes can be a very long time if it isnt during a nap. :D
