Or is gaining friendship with the world automatically "put you at God's displeasure"?

The Bible doesn't forbid a Christian from being wealthy. Many of God's servants, such as Abraham and Solomon, had great wealth. It only forbids us to trust in our wealth and look on it as our ultimate security. No matter how much we have in this world we will someday have to leave it behind. Jesus said we should use it to gain treasures in Heaven. We can't take it with us but we can send it on ahead of us.

agreed, I once heard a preacher at a funeral, yes at a funeral said this, "I never seen a U-Haul in a funeral procession", you cain't take it with you. naked you came, without anything, and now fully cloths, and still don't have anything, unless you have JESUS, THEN YOU HAVE EVERYTHING.

I think we need to befriend the world in order to show them the love of Jesus but we are not to let ourselves become ensnared by worldly things.

"if someone carries consecrated meat in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?”’
The priests answered, ‘No.’
Then Haggai said, ‘If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?’
‘Yes,’ the priests replied, ‘it becomes defiled.’" Haggai 2:12-13

This passage is saying that sinfulness in contagious but holiness or righteousness isn't. So when we mix with the world we need to be careful to not let it taint us.
