I accidentally placed this thread in the wrong place so I am re-posting here.

So which is it?

John 1:18 -No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

Exodus 24:9 - Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11 And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.

I have a suggestions: there is also the matter of seeing by faith. Hebrews 11 and 2 Corinthians 4 would contain examples of this, maybe.

What did they see? And what do we see?

"And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory.
And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen." Ex 33:18-23

David wrote this:

"Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation." Psalm 27:7-9

And his son Solomon wrote this:

"Where there is no vision, the people perish..." Prov 29:18

Apostle Paul clarifies the same thing for a thousand years later:

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known" I Cor 13:12

Jesus demonstrated that our vision, our eyes to see, may be improved:

"And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly." Mark 8:23-25

"Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" John 11:40

The dead cannot see ... but!

"Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father." John 6:46

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matt 5:8

"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Matt 7:5

"Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
And their eyes were opened;..." Matt 9:29-30

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised," Luke 4:18

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." I John 3:2

The God of Israel mentioned in Exodus was in fact the preincarnate Son of God -- the eternal Word who became Jesus of Nazareth. But no man has seen God the Father or God the Holy Spirit. Christ appeared to Moses in the burning bush as "the Angel of the LORD", but was also shown to be the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Jhn 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
