The elect are not chosen individually before as God's favourites. No the elect are a GROUP ...or standard that has been pre-ordained by God...like the navy seals. One must try out for them...and be deemed worthy. And we can try out repeatedly ...and if we get it right we can be elevated. Even Cain had the opportunity to DO RIGHT...and be accepted. (Gen 4)

The difference is night and day epi .
No man by THE SPIRIT would ever have called JESUS accursed . EVERY ONE who fails to believe HE is the CHRIST

It feels like these days, the word "Elect" is basically a huge red flag. The second you say it, people instantly label you a "Calvinist," like the word belongs to a specific group instead of the Bible. But if the Bible uses that term to describe God's people, why are we avoiding it? But if the Bible uses that term to describe God's people, why are we avoiding it?

I prefer to use the terms "God's people" or "Jesus's people" in my posts here. Less theological baggage.

Why has a biblical description of Christians become so controversial?

The reason is a combination of the doctrine of double-predestination plus the doctrine of eternal conscious torment. "God chose ME for eternal bliss in His presence. He chose YOU from before the Foundation of the World to burn in Hell, and you might as well abandon all hope because there is nothing you can do to change your destiny."

And you wonder why people react negatively to that?

Here is the original concept of Election:

And if the Jewish people were chosen through being Abraham's sons and daughters, we are chosen through being Christ's adopted brothers and sisters. Note the parallels in our calling between Ephesians and Deuteronomy. The call to be a holy people.

Note in Ephesians 4, our "Election" is in "in Christ", the Chosen One. It is not in ourselves. Our election is as Jesus's people, as a group. I'm pretty sure Epi got this one right in post #19.

I also want to point out that being Jesus's people is being adopted into a family in which we are responsible for being "a light unto the world" (or "a light unto the Nations", if you prefer the Old Testament calling). It is NOT about being adopted into the privilege of "being saved".

and we get them and ourselves into the bible to actually learn ab out HIM .
Its that simple . You dont need scholars and or any other ism . Just learn a bout Christ .
This generation t ries to explain away far too much . ME i just stick
to what is necessary for how one can be saved , and yes warning that all who reject HIM will be damned .
And let us get in the scriptures so we can test all that anyone d oes say .
