We have seen Russia & Canada doing a bit of sabre-rattling over ownership of the Arctic.Today I was told that the name "Canada" is derived from a word in the native Huron and Iroquois Indian dialect meaning"the land of undefended settlements or villages".I've e-mailed some people to get confirmation.Ezek. 38:11-12 speaking to Gog-Magog, believed to be Russia & associates, reads:-And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.I flew over Canada recently and saw the patchwork quilt of farms as far as the eye could see (after the desolate areas), and I know people of all nations now live in Canada.Militarily and economically they would rather go for the resources in the sparsely-populated middle of Canada.

Yes, I can see what you mean. Canada is of the tribe of Ephraim (amongst others) because it was traditionally under the crown. The traditional interpretation of Ezekiel 38 is that there will be a return by Israel in the end times to the land of Israel enjoyed by a time of peace (perhaps under Antichrist) only to be invaded mid-Tribulation as specified by Ezekiel 38. I think this can still be true. However, for the tribes of Israel still in other lands, this can hold equally true. I don't believe all the tribes will be regathered by the time Jesus comes as evidenced by references to Jesus gathering them again (even in apocryphal books). In short, what I am trying to say is that maybe we ought to expand our thinking in understanding that Ezekiel 38 does not apply only to the land of Israel, but to all the lands that Israel resides in when this occurs. Russia is North of both the land of Israel, and north of the American continent as well.
