HEALTH ALERTCDC issues tuberculosis alert for recent trans-Atlantic travelersMay 29, 2007 03:08 PM PDT The CDC is urging passengers who traveled on trans-Atlantic flights earlier this month to get tested for tuberculosis. This after tests show a male traveler had an extremely drug resistant case of TB.The CDC says the infected man flew from Atlanta to Paris on May 12 and returned by flying from Prague to Montreal on May 24. He then drove across the border. After he left the country, it was determined he had a strain of tuberculosis that does not respond to first and second line treatments. CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding says "We are considering his ability to transmit, but also the seriousness of this organism and the chance that some passenger on this plane could be one that was at a special risk for serious TB."Tuberculosis is an airborne bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs. The man is currently being quarantined and is receiving treatment.
