Why does it seem like it's always assumed by the christian community that their fellow christians are going to enjoy gospel music? Of course every christian shouldn't have a problem with the lyrics, but it's the music in particular that I just really dont like.Just think of the one style of music that you absolutely not stand. Now imagine your trying to worship God while doing so. Thats kinda my situation. Again, don't get me wrong I love the lyrics to all worship songs it's just the music is troublesome to my ears. And what if I don't like singing - period? It's still possible to worship God in other ways right? Can anyone else relate? Thanks.

oohhhhhh yeah, I feel ya. Another question along with yours: What if "worship" was only done by interpretive dance in today's church? There'd be a whole lot of us that look pretty "unholy" (or whatever). I think music is only used for worship because A) it's so expressive and feel-good and

most people enjoy music in general. I think the style only sounds the way it does because Christian songwriters write out of feelings and intentions that simply don't usually produce what produces "popular" music. I don't know why, but I know from experience: I can write a cool rock song about loneliness, or I can worship with a "Christian sounding" song that's directed right to the Lord. It's hard to cross those barriers for some reason, but I know lots of people are trying to. In the end, even what I'd label "cool-sounding Christian music" hardly directly worships God with its words, but instead just has a Biblical mindset in the lyrics. Thankfully God looks at our heart. Sometimes when I'm stuck in the music part of a service that I don't want to be a part of, I just try to worship Him with my heart alone. He doesn't need me to sing a word. Most the time singing distracts me anyway. I think we can do anything with "the heart of worship" and it'll be worship. Whatever expresses you, that's what God wants to receive as worship... art, music, dance, sports... whatever. Unless the expression is sinful, there's not a gift of expression that God can't accept as worship from our hearts. If something designed to help your relationship with God actually hinders you, you shouldn't do it... regardless of the impression and reaction the Christian culture gives you. The Church is always changing how it looks. I have a feeling things will keep chaning as people keeping changing what they like, paired with the desire to love The Lord. Otherwise, I think we're a bunch of religious fakers. Don't be afraid to pave new roads. Please do. The younger generations of Christians are starving for their own expression of worship.

Worship is committed in multiple ways and yes I too have had some similar experiences where I feel like music or "praise and worship" as it has been called at churches I have attended, seem to be overemphasized and I have been left feeling awkward because that is not my style. My form of worship is more of an inward thing. I do participate at times in singing and such, but it is not my preferred method.Worship is participatory but that doesn't mean you have to engage in something if you feel uncomfortable.

Yes there are many other forms of worship. You don't have to sing in church if you don't want to and people shouldn't have a problem with it. I choose to sing. Sometimes I like the way the song sounds and sometimes I don't. For me it is more about the words; expressing my feelings and praising the Lord. Even if you can't sing, He appreciates it. My dad is tone deaf and has no rhythm, can't sing or clap haha. But it doesn't stop him from "mak[ing] a joyful noise unto the Lord."There are other types of Christian music out there, that aren't necessarily worship music but have Christian themes. I'm not too up on the Christian music scene but I was recently researching Christian hip hop, or holy hip hop as some like to call it. I always liked rap music and listened to a lot before I was saved. I had heard a few Christian rap artists from years ago and I hate to say it but they weren't very good. The secular artists blew them out of the water. I mean, it wasn't even remotely close. To my surprise holy hip hop is starting to catch up to the mainstream. In my recent search I came across one in particular good legit rapper. His name is Lecrae. Search for him on godtube and you will find 2 good videos. I actually cried at the end of the one because it was exactly how I felt at the time.Sorry for the long post! lol

I LOVE the music of the old time hymns when song writers knew how to write good music instead of something that gets a person to dancing, yelling and clapping their hands so that they can't hear the words. It's not the music that's important, but the message in the words.I absolutely loathe hard metal or rap. They irritate my ears and my nerves and drive me up the wall. I love southern gospel quartets. Whatever floats your boat.
