I just listened to a sermon on unity which had a slight twist, it's premise was this...

The opposite of Unity is NOT division, it is Counterfeit unity.

Basing his sermon on Jesus famous call for unity, the preacher went on to use the examples of the Listeners to Peter at pentecost and the Listeners to Steven during his trial, Both of which were "pricked to the heart" and "of one accord".

Given Satan's desire to "be like the most high", (in my mind) a counterfeit unity does seem to be the ultimate goal (over simply dividing the church).

Of course True unity is based on the word of God, and preaching the word of God will cause division from the body of Christ by those who "block their ears and gnash their teeth".

In this train of thought...
Unifying at the expense of ANY point that is not contained in the word of God = Counterfeit unity, and puts you under the devils banner.

Let us all pray to be of one accord IN THE WORD as those who remained at pentecost, and also for others that they will respond to painful messages not by plugging their ears but by asking "what shall we do".
