John Calvin had an enemy by the name of Michael Servetus. Servetus came to Calvin's church to hear him preach and was recognized, arrested, and burned at the stake. Calvin once said that...

"Whoever shall maintain that wrong is done to heretics and blasphemers in punishing them makes himself an accomplice in their crime and guilty as they are. There is no question here of man's authority; it is God who speaks, and clear it is what law he will have kept in the church, even to the end of the world. Wherefore does he demand of us a so extreme severity..." (http://en.wikipedia....ichael_Servetus)

Again, John Calvin is of the Sardisean Church age (My take on the seven churches)) and is the example of it all... Legalistic, hard, rigid, up tight, no joy, no love, no peace, no Holy Ghost... But he knew it all... And took pride in all the knowledge that he encompasses in his lifetime. Again elegant as a gem (Sardis is a gem in the Greek) but as hard as a gem as well. So not only did John Calvin toast his enemy but he declared that if anyone spoke out about the execution made them just as guilty as the heretic. John Calvin... You have blood on your hands! It would be in incredible thing after such a life long journey through the word of God that John Calvin would find himself in hell itself. Where did he miss in scripture that we are suppose to love our enemy?

And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. - Mark 10:13,14,15

I think it would be a good thing to see the John Calvin crucified in the believers heart. Do something fun! Put a smile on your face! Have a little fun! Experience a little joy! Know that the Sardisean cold is not winning any souls to Jesus! Below is a portrait by the famous painter Titan of John Calvin (The ultimate Sad-You-Cee!).

Pooh. Luther was of the same age. Though he had sting, he loved love, music and good beer. Calvin was immersed in bringing heaven to earth through the law. Luther believed it would come through the Gospel. Luther made his mistake by turning on the Jews because of their resistance to the Gospel. Both were entirely different temperments but essentially same time period.

The name of Calvin is one of those hot topics in Christianity that is guaranteed to raise the ire and instigate a heated debate.
Other words are "tongues", "rapture", "evolution" and "gay".

Theological, ideological or moral they all seem to be unresolved issues or names that cause an instant response.

Predestination vs. Free will
Evolution vs. Intelligent Design
Gay vs. straight

How do you remove the vs. from the list of things undone?
