I don't think so.
I think what the Bible is trying to show us is the character of the one who deceived Eve.
I don't believe it would have made any difference at all.
A snake is a snake no matter what clothing (SKIN) it wears.
The thing about the snake though.. it sheds it's skin.
The reason snakes shed their skin is because they are growing.
When the skin becomes too small they shed it.
And they can shed their skin 4 - 12 times in a year.
Consider the dragon.. which was the snake.
Shedding it's skin season after season, growing and growing...

How do you know when you are being deceived?
When and how do you know a sheep is a wolf?

Short answer, since I have to leave soon, is spiritual discernment. We must pray for it concerning others. Spiritual discernment is gained by knowing the Word of God and standing in that Truth. Truth cannot be compromised for anyone, so it is a red flag to want to compromise for someone. A snake will bend Truth and confuse you.

Yeh, Pharisees/Sadducees come to mind. Hard part is we all have red flags about ourselves... Like those unsafe qualities... I believe with a sheep, you see improvement in areas. Sheep recognize when they are wrong and work to correct things.

God allows temptations to happen.
They have to. Otherwise you never learn the lesson of how to beware and prepare.
Like the child who touches a hot stove and learns to be careful.
God is not the tempter. He doesn't wear the deceptive clothing, He doesn't offer you poison fruit.
But He does allow you to experience it. And I believe experience is necessary.
How can one ever learn to win in battle if one never lifts the sword.
How can one realize the importance of the breastplate until they have been hit by arrows.
Or wearing peace upon your feet if one has never tread on lies.

How does one learn to not be deceived unless one is tried by deception itself?

you're over thinking it, the nature of evil is to know what the truth is and lie about it. otherwise one places imagined images and preconceived notions about something like a serpent. its not the serpent its the words thereof.

Satan and friends were cast out of heaven, according to Jesus at the speed of lighting. therefore he knows what God said to Adam, he knows what the bible says he knows what Jesus said and did and will do, he knows what God looks like (image and likeness). he will try to recreate that image in your mind that he is the source of truth to be trusted via any medium posable.

as far as how do you know a wolf in sheep's clothing? well if that person is what you think a trusted Christian ought to be. the odd's are its an image made to deceive. deception is mainly recreating an image and likeness what you trust.


note how he tested Eve on her knowledge of just what exactly God said to Adam, and convinced her that she should be the judge of what is good and evil. did she not, see the fruit as to make one wise? a judgement not of God or His Word.

I doesn't have to even be a christian. It can be anyone who draws you near only to find it was for their own selfish reasons.
Deception can come in many forms and shapes and sizes.
Consider the beggar on the street holding a sign "Feed the Hungry"
You feel sorry because you believe he is hungry and will buy food to eat,
only to find he spent it on alcohol or drugs. And so you are helping contribute to his homelessness.

the nature of evil is to know what the truth is and lie about it.

That has to be the worse. Specially when the one your lying to considers themselves a friend.
Like Judas.
The world and all it's false glory, it's fame and fortune, delusions and mirages. Like a desert wothout water.
The world wants you to be it's friend so it can suck the life right out of you.

How do you know when you are being deceived?

Unless you know God's truth first, you cannot know that you are being deceived. Adam knew God's truth, and was not deceived, but nonetheless disobeyed God. So knowing the truth must go hand in hand with doing righteously.

When and how do you know a sheep is a wolf?

That is not hard at all. Wolves will mislead sheep before they devour them. Think of Little Red Riding Hood (or does anyone even remember her?).

I'm lost and trying to get home. Here's a bus ticket.
Ask and ye shall receive... just ask wisely.

I can see deception happening all over the world right now.
But for some reason when it's in your own back yard.. you can be blind to it.
You make excuses for it.
Not because the deception isn't there or you don't want to see it.
Perhaps it's because you don't want to admit you were conned.
Nobody ever wants to hear: I told you so, even when you've gone over the cliff and hanging by a thread.

My brother always used to steal my stuff when we were kids.
My mom would say, where is this or that, and I would say I lost it or I gave it to somebody.
Always covering for him. He was my brother.
Then one day he stole my car. an old beat up junkbox Ford station wagon. But it was the only transportation I had to get my daughter to school and myself to work.
I went to the police station and put in a complaint that my car had been stolen.
When they asked if I had a description of the person I said, Yes. it was my brother.

Hard day that was for me. I felt so guilty for a crime he had committed.
He had taken it 2 States away and crashed it into a tree.
He walked away fine, right into a jail cell.
I had to borrow 1500 dollars for a new engine.

He had said to me prior to stealing my car,
Can I sleep in your car tonight I have nowhere to go.
I gave him blankets and a pillow.. for him and his girlfriend.
I had no room at the inn so to speak and he knew that.
The next morning while I was washing the dishes, he came in and told me he had locked his dufflebag in the car.
He needed the keys to get it.
I pointed to the wall where they hung and continued washing.
About 10 minutes later I thought, where did he get to?
I walked outside and poof my car was gone.

Always wanting to believe the best in everyone even when you see the worst coming from a mile away.

The biggest lesson is to know our own truth. We humans are very deceptive, especially in terms of self-denial. The more we can discern ourselves, the better equipped (lessons learnt) we are to discern the truth.

Every form of fear, tension, issue and agenda we carry as a yoke, blinds us from the truth. We become too focused on self wants to see the truth. All our vices keep us preoccupied from any virtues in us. In short, it is our own self-deception which is the biggest problem.

Most humans live a conditional lifestyle. They want something in return for even the slightest effort of their own behalf. If they don't get a return for their investment, all hell breaks loose. Fear, resentment, blame, anger, revenge, deception, anxiety, depression, etc., arises within themselves. All this because something did not go their way.

We are not here for self (our way). We are here for the soul, for the One who sent us (God's way). Jesus Christ knew this all the time. He was one with God (Truth), and he never was deceived.
