WHAT IS THE MYSTERY?

OK

I'd say that the mystery is that the Gentiles would be welcomed into the fold of the sheep of God.

This was prophesied in the OT, for example by the Covenant with Abraham....
He would be the father of many nations.

It was completed in the NT when Paul preached to the Gentiles telling them of the god they worshipped which was unknown.
It was not really PREACHED until the NT.

Is it more complicated than this??

That Gentiles would be saved is prophecy not mystery, as you say....................[Isa 49:6 KJV] 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

The mystery is that the Gentiles would be in the body of Christ where there is neither Jew or Gentile........................[Eph 3:6 KJV] 6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
[Gal 3:28 KJV] 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
