If you haven't already read The Wars of the Jews, you will be surprised by how many things happened in Jerusalem and the temple before the Roman army came and destroyed it all. There was famine, destruction, killing of the population, stealing food and setting fire to everything the enraged Jews did not take. The book of Revelation spoke much the same.

I actually read the Antiquity of the Jews and the War of the Jews by Flavius Josephus...amazing! :)
