Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

Disputing in the Scriptures is good and healthy for the body of Christ, so long as we remain correctible. God can correct us by one another, who all are equally born of the Spirit of truth, that gave us the Scriptures in the first place.

There have been a few who believe all 'arguing' about the Bible is wrong.

Some even suggest stop all the arguing about the Bible, and instead hear one another's spiritual revelations from God in these last days, that are not written in Scripture.

Let no man tell you to ever give up your right as a man and woman, much less as Christians, to continue to read Scripture for yourself and seek revelation and understanding of the truth of Scripture from God Himself.

Nor let anyone forbid you freedom to go to Scripture to challenge one another, and so to perhaps know for sure whether what is being taught is true or not.

I entered into a cult ignorantly, when I first thought what the preacher said was always more important and correct, than what I would have to say about the doctrine of Christ.

That is when I began to shelve my own study of Scripture, in favor of hearing every word that proceedeth from the mouth of 'Pastor'.

Paul did not mind at all any believer going to Scripture to challenge his own gospel given to him personally by Jesus Christ.

Them that refuse to have their teaching disputed by Scriptures, are them that will not be corrected by God nor man.

And them that even suggest disputes of Scripture is bad 'pitting' of Scripture, is simply someone that doesn't want his revelations rejected by true revelation of Scripture.

If any of us cease to want to hear correction of our teaching, then we can simply 'share' what we have and move on, but that does not mean those wiling to correct and be corrected, as did the apostles, are somehow destroying the body of Christ.

Only popes and cult-like potentates refuse to have their revelations disputed by other lowly laity and common sheep.

Pilate asked Jesus what is truth, and Jesus said in prayer that God's word is truth. Most accept the Bible is God's inspired word, therefore is the truth Rob. Since there are over 10,000 different faiths claiming to be God's people, no doubt an amount of debating on Scripture is expected. It is rather easy usually however to discern if one is actually interested in learning, or simply desiring to have it their own way. Ultimately it falls on the individual to examine themselves to make sure they are worshipping God in the way He desires. To recognize His spirit anointed people and go with them sir. The Bible clearly identifies them, beyond any doubt.

Disputing is good if one is filled with the Spirit in complete submission to the Lord and the person has the authority of God behind them like the Apostles and Jesus with the Pharisees. In Acts we see that authority with the Apostles wherever they went and in the gospels with Jesus. Jesus and the Apostles silenced their critics for they knew the scriptures and the intent behind them to use against their opponents.

So that is the biblical model. And I would say not many are called to such a mission field. Apologetic's is a good thing done from a pure heart and right motives. 1 Peter 3:15- But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect, Colossians 4:6 -Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Ephesians 4:29 - Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.

hope this helps !!!
