I've heard people say when they feel terrible, "god is giving you conviction of your sins".
We know that old serpent caused the fall, feeding Eve and Adam a lie that they had no idea what it meant or the effect it would have on them:
Genesis 3
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Interestingly Eve and Adam received curses and so did the serpent. The full chapters are around Genesis 3.
God has never caused us to feel terrible. He is everything loving and pleasant in body and spirit. He loves his children.
...
I also know that the serpent appears to convict and accuse thru tempting.
Tempting can come in many forms. From seducers to abusers and blasphemers.
Those are from human interactions and also interactions from earths many sights, sounds, smells, and feelings physically, emotionally and mentally.
There are other such as chemical, biological and radiation types, like too much are too little sun light at the wrong time.
Some chemicals might make you feel tempted, accused or convicted. Whether you intended to take them or somehow they were received by you.
It perhaps can be difficult for people to discern what is "convicted" in the first place.
We are all unique creations of God. He knows us. We might all experience the same thing differently. Although we may communicate with similar spoken words. That does not mean we think or feel similar.
That is why God's spirit is so important. He knows us, and he is pleasant in loving spirit. A father comforting, protecting and guiding his loved ones. We might all receive the same feelings spiritually from him. We are all "one in Christ, body and spirit. And also many". As the tree has many branches and fruits, and the same roots and tree.".
God desires to forgive us our sins, so we should be forgiving and serving God, by helping others and honoring God in worship.
If somehow, including our lord, we become aware of a sin or sins, we can call on Heavenly Father thru his Son, Jesus the Christ and their Holy Spirit. We can ask him to heal us of our sins, we can ask for his help. We can also confess, when appropriate, our sins to our brothers and sisters in Christ or priesthood and Christian counselors, they can help us and forgive us as well. Making ammends with them for peace to abound.
Thank You,
Devin
