Does God have favorite children?

I've read that God is no respector of persons. Does that mean he doesn't have favorites and loves one person as much as another?

I don't know where you read that God is no respecter of humans. God is perfect, so he doesn't have to look up to any of us. Still, he loves us and certainly respects our efforts to do his will.

And God has feelings, so certainly he prefers people who love him to those who curse him.

It is said of King David of Israel that he was the apple of God's eye.

And the parable of the 3 servants the master gave money to invest for him. The first servant with five coins doubled it to 10. The one with 2 coins doubled it to 4. But the last one who the master only gave 1 coin, buried it in the ground, and upon his return gave the 1 coin back to the master. The master took the one coin and gave it to his most trusted servant who made 10. "God chastises those He loves." So it is not so much His love which is perfect agape love, it is who loves Him back the most.

This is why the greatest commandment is to Love God with your whole spirit, soul and body. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

PARABLE OF THE TALENTS:

That makes sense, thanks. I was wondering if God also has select servants, like the difference between chosen and called.

I was filled with the Spirit 30 years after first going to church. That was 45 years ago that I've been walking with the Spirit. 22 years ago in 2000 while driving in the desert of Arizona on my way to a church conference God spoke to me and said "I am giving you the office of Teacher." That time in between from 1977 to 2000 I had gone through different levels of obedience to Him, but He was always in my thoughts so I never sinned willfully, but lived up to the level I was at. Philippians 3:16. If I ever did sin, and I'm sure I did, it was unknown and unintentional. and while walking in the Spirit 1 John 1:7 says that those sins are cleansed (automatically).

It is untrue that God somehow doesn't allow some people to come to Christ, "only the elect". It is not God's will that ANY should perish but that all come to the knowledge of Christ. But once we do hear of Christ and chose to come to Christ, and He empowers us to be slaves of righteousness, it is still up to us to "purify ourselves," "keep" ourselves, and "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling." 1 John 3:3; 1 John 5:18; Philippians 2:12.
