Hi everyone, I would greatly appreciate your prayers- I have a spiritual problem, I do not understand the scripture, I do not understand God. I think it would take a miracle for me to understand it. I must obey the scripture at all costs but I do not understand it. I see the God of the scripture as being very mean when I know He is not. Please pray that I understand the scripture and get to know God better! Thanks

What scripture makes you think God is mean, as opposed to loving (but stern if you disobey Him)?

Hi - warning… long post. 5-6 minute read.
under-STANDING… a great and mysterious topic.
Knowledge (whether Carnal or Spiritual) Always Precedes understanding.
Trusting to BELIEVE (Knowledge), Always Precedes understanding.
Carnally…men receive “Knowledge”… FROM: (parents, teachers, friends, books, trials, etc.)
Some will believe, doubt, reject.
Spiritually…men receive “Knowledge”, same methods, ADDING “Preachers”.
Some will believe, doubt, reject.
Either scenario…
Knowledge…”is” Scripturally Taught…
To (the best of your ability) … TEST / VERIFY.
Testing / Verifying … Knowledge received…
Knowledge From “MEN”… Believability, Trustworthiness can (and Sometimes Does ) waver From day to day.
Testing / Verifying Knowledge of Gods Word…
As well Can be challenging…Particularly for a young (or rather newbie) “student” (not committed) to or of Gods Word.
(the frustrating “challenge” IS: EVERY BIT of Gods Word an individual Learns…the Human nature, having … yearns… even … (demands the Understanding of that BIT of Knowledge)…
Gods Knowledge is Given / Revealed, BIT by BIT, Little BY Little….( A preparation FOR an Under-STANDING, of the WHOLE, Big Picture.)
A Key Difference between … bit by bit knowledge from men AND Knowledge from God…;
Knowledge From men, may or may Not be True.
Knowledge From God IS absolute Truth…
AND…(and A “FREE” GIFT Given From God)…
That GIFT, (for hearing, reading, learning the Knowledge of Gods Word?)…
Bit by Bit… receipt of little by little is FAITH.
Learn a little, receive a little Faith.
Continue Learning, Continue Receiving increased measures of Faith.

Hope, you continue Believing until mortal death…And After mortal Death, Your soul shall be Saved THEN.

(But to those “hoping” Beware…During the rest of your mortal life;
Wicked, influential men AND evil powerful angels will seek you out to convince you to reject the Lord God).
They who ARE, Confessed AND Saved…
Have a “UNIQUE” and “POWERFUL” one on one Relationship with the Lord God…
They HAVE… the Unique, Exclusive, Privileged Honor to ASK the Lord God…ANYTHING ( including… What Does God say “such and such of His word, His Knowledge MEAN”…
To your Point…
The Source of Knowledge, Also IS the Source of Understanding of The Knowledge.
When the Knowledge IS Gods Word…
The True Source of the Understanding IS ALSO God.
The Understanding IS a Gift Given … To they WHO…
HAVE a committed Relationship WITH the Lord God… AND ASK… and WAIT for His Answer.
Be patient… the ANSWER comes from His Spirit to (born again spirts of men)…
And May be an instant Response…or days and weeks later (seemingly out of the blue at a time of not even thinking about the question).
Personally for me, I read, study, reread, ASK, wait, and it may be weeks later and doing chores, mucking the barn (nothing flattering about that…) and the Answer comes.
And I go back to the Knowledge, reread, with Now having Gods Understanding…(to THAT particular point/question)
And I Repeat over and over, whatever I choose to read and study of God Word.
The highlight…?
The committed individual has been “made”… “STANDING” “under the Authority and Power” of God, to BE honorably privileged , To receive Gods Understanding, According to God Himself.

God demands something from man to understand His words.
Many are not willing to meet that requirement to be granted understanding.
Proverbs 1:23
"Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you."
To simplify (about your obeying)...love your neighbor as yourself as Jesus taught us. The Bible goes on to say love is the fulfilling of the law because then you won't do wrong to your neighbor.
Sometimes you might not agree with the wrong actions of your neighbor, but you shouldn't hate anyone.
Whether or not you have a spiritual problem, or need a miracle to understand the Bible and God, is not evidenced by the information you supplied. The Christian way of life is a life-long pursuit of studying the scripture. For the first few years of your Christian life should be devoted to the intense study of the Word. God has gifted some believers with the gift of teaching. That gift is something that each Pastor has, but there are others who have the gift. That is where teachers at the Church, and those gifted with teaching the Bible may write commentaries. You will have to research which commentaries are evangelical, dispensational, exegetical, and uses primarily a literal interpretation.
I recommend believers go to a conservative Bible College. Be prepared to work hard, read the textbooks for each class. Do additional studies and make sure you take all the classes offered about biblical languages. When deciding on books that are additional to assigned books, look at a few of the more difficult passages to understand and read those pages, if the author makes it clear then consider this a good commentary or topical study to get. When you buy books, begin making your library.
You should not understand the Bible or God at this time. It takes a lot of discipline, time, study, and humility. I want to wish you good luck in your endeavors to pursuit at all cost the knowledge of our Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
