Galatians 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
The hardest thing for a believer to do is to be free. Without the in Christ message fixed in you, most will only find freedom in rebellion. Not so much against God, but against everything and everyone that says you can't do that. Let me say something about the law, most have the deep root of law religion working in them, for example; when an individual gets saved they may need some instruction, but they will know what they are supposed to do and be. It is kind of like following the crowd, even though they were in the world and had nothing to do with religion they were being told by the law of the land "you can't do this or you can't do that."
So for most it is easy to fit into what ever they are being told what to do. So law keeping becomes a way of life, well surly you have figured out there is no life in the law. If you break the speed limit you are fined, if you overstep any of the written laws of the land you will pay the consequences. So in keeping the law of the land it makes you acceptable to the world. If you break from the law you find you are nolonger acceptable and will in turn pay a dept to society to be able to return to acceptance. Sound familiar, religion is ran exactly like the world.
So your true freedom will always hinge on what you understand about the Christ in you. If you just have a knowledge that he is there somewhere and no real understanding, then the world will be your schoolhouse. That is not a bad thing, we all must learn Christ. Just as the law of the land and the law of God are not bad things. Without either you have anarchy, a land and people that runs itself, no government, that is a reprobate land and people. Reprobation (my word) will look like Satan himself has been unleashed, and as we all have witnessed it is not a pretty sight. So any government is always better than no government at all. We were created to be ruled over by another, so we fit in good with the sin nature.
Now watch this! If we are not being ruled by our freedom in Christ we are still ruled by another. What is another? Another in this case is the soul-mind, your very mind allows your past ways of doing things---the way you thought, the way you acted, the way you handled lifes circumstances and situations. Notice something here; the you in all of this, it is still you doing, instead of Christ having a mind to work out of you, you are the dominant one in the equation and nothing ever works out. At times in God's grace and mercy he helps us but you cannot work life out, because you were created to be ruled over by another.
That is the curse Paul talks about in Galatians chapter one, it is the gospel of self---me-me-me, and Christ goes unattended to. Sitting there waiting like an old man in a rocking chair waiting to express the fullness of who he is in you in every circumstance and situation. It is the only place a believer finds true freedom, when Christ in you is free to express himself through you. What is the verse; "whom the Son sets free is free in deed." True freedom and happiness expressed as you, he does not give us anything, he is all these things in us, Christ in you the hope of glory is the greatest verse given to Christianity.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
