I watched it live, and then the reply a number of times to make sure I saw what I actually saw.
It required a two-thirds vote in the affirmative to change the platform. The voice vote was at least 50-50 and sounded more likely in favor of the Nays.
So they:
1. Intentionally removed the statement of Jerusalem being the capital of Israel from their platform, although it has been there in 2008, 2004, and 2000.
2. They removed the word "God" from the platform. This although it "God" was mentioned seven times in 2008's platform and four times in 2004's platform.
3. They receive backlash from the Republicans, the Israelis, Jewish voters in the U.S (who they need desperately) Christians, and even the press corps.
4. They choose to remedy it by having a public vote to add God and Jerusalem.
5. They hold the voice vote not once but three times, each time showing the 'Nay' votes were at least 50 percent of the voters
6. They intentionally pretend they had a two-third yes vote to change the platform, enduring boos and jeers that were broadcast nationwide.
7. They have angered more than hafl the people at the convention, likely meaning at least half of the Dems nationwide, made themselves look silly to the rest of the nation, and look like flip-floppers to the Israelis, the Palestinians and to all Americans.
None too smooth....
