The most significant understanding concerning “being made free from sin” (Rom 6:18, 22) is the fact that those reborn are ever free from the guilt of sin. Forgiveness is not a single occurrence but an unchanging and permanent status! Being free from sin can only mean freedom from the guilt of sin. If the “old man” was expelled from the saint it would mean freedom from sin. But Scripture confirms the continued indwelling of the sin nature in the saint (Rom 7:17, 18, 20).
Thus, being free from the guilt of sin is a meaningful and all-sufficient truth. God knows the sincerity of the individual and already sees the one eventually understanding and choosing to live for God, as He “works” within (Phl 2:13). Believers need to learn the permanency of everything God does within them if they desire to live victorious.
Let us not continue in the ignorance of the freedom and joy of the Lord Jesus, and not offend the love
that the Father has for us!
